Introduction

Welcome to saving the animals of the rainforest. The purpose of this WebQuest is that Mr. Sonny Conure, who is a biologist as well as a famous zoologist, has hired you to do some extensive research on the rainforest. It is your job over the next two weeks to see how the animals survive.

After choosing two particular rainforest animals, you will need to follow the steps necessary to make your journey into the animal world a success. There are many books in our classroom, as well as the library, that you will be able to borrow. You will also need to use the Internet for current facts and pictures of your animals for your written report. Have a great journey.

Pretend you are spending the night in the rainforest alone. You are hungry and looking for something to eat, especially meat. You run into a tribe who kills the endangered animals. Do you join the tribe or go hungry for a day? Mr. Conure will be expecting your research. He will be back to get you in 24 hours. Will you stay with the tribe or try to help the animals of the rainforest?

The Task

Now that you have chosen two rainforest animals, you are required to address several questions in your written report. The written report should include pictures of both species of animals. You need to write in complete sentences. The final report must be handed in with your cover page, using a folder. Your report must cover the following questions.

1.     How would you describe these two animals?

2.     What type of characteristic, or traits do they have in common?

3.     What are the shape and approximate size of your animals?

4.     What do these animals like to eat?

5.     What animals like to eat your animals? (Who are their enemies?)

6.     How do your animals protect themselves?

7.     What do your animals look like?

8.     What makes your animals special with something you learned that makes your rainforest animals unique?

You may work individually or in pairs.

For example, you could make:

ö   An animal mask

ö   A diorama of the animals and their habitat

ö   A colorful poster

ö   A Painting

ö   An animal costume to have your animal come to life

After you do your research and write your report, you will tell your classmates about your animals. Practice telling your family what you learned about the animals you researched.

The Process

1.          First, you pick the animas to research. Keep all the information you gather in your science notebook.

2.          Once you have chosen your animals, you will begin to look for information in different sources. Keep track of your information by writing the author, title and copyright date, and source of information.

3.          You may look at the following links:
